Veterinary engineer

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Veterinary engineer was a profession in veterinary medicine in the GDR . Veterinary engineers had a degree in engineering and were deployed in all areas of veterinary or veterinary care of the animal herds within the framework of state veterinary group practices and other veterinary facilities. There were two training institutions in the GDR in Beichlingen (Thuringia) and Rostock .

History of origin

The job description arose in the early 1970s with the introduction of industrial animal production in the GDR due to high animal losses. Around this time, there were also changes at the two universities in the GDR, where it was possible to study veterinary medicine ( Berlin and Leipzig ). The veterinary faculties were dissolved and integrated into a section entitled "Animal Production and Veterinary Medicine". An exchange of letters from the then Agriculture Minister of the GDR, Georg Ewald , to the Central Committee of the SED in January 1970 included the proposal " to lower matriculations in the Animal Production and Veterinary Medicine Section at the Humboldt University from 1971 ... and to cease completely in 1974 " . There were also changes in veterinary activities at that time. Private branches of veterinarians were no longer permitted.

The veterinary engineer was a specialist in the "execution process". The range of activities included many veterinary measures on animals, from prophylaxis to curative activities.

The admission requirements for the course were Abitur, if possible in connection with an internship in agriculture, vocational training with Abitur , if possible in a related occupational field, or completion of the polytechnic high school (10th grade) in connection with a completed professional training and a delegation by a company Reason for excellent job performance.

With the letter of October 1, 1990 from the freely elected Council of Ministers of the GDR , the degree was recognized as a university degree (FH) in veterinary medicine.

After reunification

The job description did not exist in the Federal Republic of Germany, and there was no representation of interests in the old federal states, which is why direct recognition failed. In 1994 it was recognized as a university degree ( FH precursor institutions). In 1997, ISV Beichlingen graduates from the Anhalt University of Applied Sciences in Bernburg were given the opportunity to obtain the academic degree Dipl-Ing. (FH) after taking an exam. The interest groups of veterinary engineers are trying to this day to obtain a veterinary license for veterinary engineers.
