history
At the end of the 19th century, precisely in 1890, veterinarians founded the Association of Serbian Veterinarians. The association founded the magazine Veterinarski Glasnik in December 1903 , in which professional and scientific questions in the field of veterinary medicine and animal husbandry are discussed. The first edition was published in January 1904 by the Veterinary Association of the Kingdom of Serbia. The first editor was Petar D. Todorović (1854-1917). From 1920 to 1941 the journal was published under the name Jugoslovenski veterinarski Glasnik by the Yugoslav Veterinary Association for Veterinary Medicine and Animal Husbandry. Editors were prominent experts of the time. The publication of the magazine was suspended during the Balkan Wars, World War I and II and the post-war period (1912-1919 and 1941-1946). Since 1947 the magazine, originally published by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and subsequently by the Association of Veterinarians and Veterinary Technicians of Yugoslavia, has been published again with the same title Jugoslovenski Veterinarski Glasnik , starting with number one. After that the name was changed to Veterinarski Glasnik . After the collapse of the SFRY, there was a crisis in journal publication, which was overcome by the Veterinary Faculty of Belgrade University in 1993 with the decision to take over the publication of the journal. Thus, the continuity of publication of the oldest journals in the field of veterinary medicine in the region has been preserved. The centenary of the first edition was published in 2004. Until 2015, the Veterinary Chamber of Serbia worked as a co-editor in the technical, editorial, financial transaction areas as well as in the proofreading and delivery business. After that, all activities of the journal were completely taken over by the Veterinary Faculty of Belgrade University. In the past 60 years the editors have been Uroš Bratanović, Sava Mihajlović, Ljubomir Kozić, Đurđe Đurđević, Božidar Marković, Zlatan Sinovec (from 2002 to 2007) and Vitomir Ćupić (from 2008 to 2016). Until 2016, Veterinarski Glasnik was published six times a year only in Serbian, with summaries in Serbian, English and Russian. Since 2017, Veterinarski Glasnik has been published in English, with summaries in English and Serbian, twice a year, according to the principle of open access, which enables better availability of the articles.
Publication frequency
The journal was published twelve times a year (monthly) until 1998, and in 1999 the periodicity was reduced to bimonthly. Since the change in the editorial team and the transition to English in 2017, the magazine Veterinarski Glasnik has been published twice a year.
