Vevey Riviera Basket is a Swiss basketball club from Vevey .

history

The club was founded in 1952 as the Vevey Basketball Club in Channe d'Or in Vevey, with Jean Decollogny serving as the first president. In 1963 the club was able to join the 1st division, which was the highest Swiss league at the time. Already in 1963 Vevey was canton champion and runner-up in the league. The club spent the years 1965 to 1970 in the National League B and, in particular, had to go through a crisis in 1968 that almost led to the club being dissolved.

In 1981, the club reached the final of the Swiss Cup for the first time , but that was just lost to the Nyon Basket with 95:96 afterwards . Two years later, however, it worked with a 68:63 against Friborg Olympic with the first cup title. The following season 1983/84 was with the double the most successful in the history of the club. In the subsequent participation in the FIBA European Cup Winners' Cup , the club was able to qualify for the group stage after defeating Panathinaikos Athens . The Vaudois managed a 73-73 draw at home against eventual European Cup winners Real Madrid . In 1985 Vevey was again in the final and was able to win it against Pully Basket for the third time in a row.

In 1987 the club was again in the final, but this time had to admit defeat against Champel Genève Basket . The second and so far last championship title followed in 1991. In 1994 and 1996 the club reached the cup final twice, but had to admit defeat both times.

In 1999 Vevey Basket merged with Blonay Basket to form today's association Vevey Riviera Basket . However, in 2001 the club again reached the Cup final, lost it again against the Lugano Snakes 2005, the organization took place after 35 years in the top league of relegation to the National League B. In the 2007/08 season could again in the NLA try rose, however, immediately off again. In 2017 they rose again to the National League A.
