history

founding

The VfG mail order pharmacy was founded in 2004 by Christian Schleuning (* 1961), who has been a professor at the Leipzig University of Technology, Economics and Culture since 2003 . The business started with a storage capacity of 500 m² and an assortment of around 500 over-the-counter medicines. Only the German market was served. In the same year Schleuning set up a logistics department in the Bohemian town of Česká Lípa .

Catalog dispatch and collaborations 2004–2006

The VfG mail-order pharmacy's first offline advertising campaigns took place in 2005. In cooperation with Westfalia Werkzeugcompany , catalogs were sent to 500,000 customers for the first time. The VfG mail order pharmacy thus achieved an annual turnover of 3.5 million euros and received the “good” rating from Stiftung Warentest . In 2006, VfG was able to establish itself as one of the largest mail-order pharmacies in Germany and increase its turnover to 35 million euros with 350,000 customers.

Market expansion 2007–2009

After being integrated into the Zur Rose Group in December 2006, the VfG mail-order pharmacy entered the Austrian market in 2007. By sending 1 million parcels per year, sales rose to 52 million euros with 700,000 customers. In 2008 the VfG Versandapotheke expanded its range to include over-the-counter veterinary drugs and was able to increase its number of customers again; 870,000 customers ordered from the mail order pharmacy. A year later, the VfG mail-order pharmacy reached the million mark in terms of the number of customers, making it (in association with the Zur Rose Group ) one of the largest mail-order pharmacy groups in Europe.

Legal regulations

According to the country list of the Federal Ministry of Health (BMG), drugs can currently be shipped to Germany from Iceland, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic and the United Kingdom. There are a few exceptions. Shipping from the Netherlands is only legal if there is also a retail pharmacy. Only non-prescription drugs can be exported from the Czech Republic.
