The VfL 07 Lennep (officially: Verein für Leibesübungen 07 Lennep eV ) is a sports club from the Remscheid district of Lennep . The first women's handball team once took part in the German championship.

history

The club was founded on August 18, 1907 as the Lenneper Football Club in 1907 . In 1925 and 1926, the clubs SSV Krebsöge and women's swimming club in 1911 joined Lenneper FC. On July 20, 1929, this merged with Hellas Lennep and VfL Preußen Lennep to VfL 07 Lennep . In 1946 the members of the former workers' sports club joined VfL 07, which merged with Schwarz-Weiß Lennep on November 23, 1973 to form 1. FC Lennep 07/31 . In 1991 this took on the name VfL 07 Lennep again.

Handball

The handball players of VfL 07 Lennep became champions of the Lower Rhine district in 1935 and thus reached the final round of the German championship in field handball . There the team was eliminated in the round of 16 after a 2: 7 defeat against BC 01 from Cologne .

athletics

Elfriede Wever took part in the Summer Olympics in Antwerp in 1928 . In the 800-meter run , she finished ninth in the final.

Soccer

The footballers of VfL 07 Lennep rose in 1934 to the then second-class district class. From 1946 the club played again in the district class, from which the team was relegated in 1952. This was followed by direct resurgence, before the team had to go back down to the district class in 1954. Again the direct promotion succeeded before the team had to relegate again in 1963. This was followed by a sporting downturn that brought the club into the district league C in 2005. In the 2016/17 season the first team plays in the district league A.

In 1989 the club founded a women's team. This made it into the state league in 1995 and four years later made the leap into the Niederrhein association league. During the 2000/01 season, the team was withdrawn from ongoing game operations. The home ground is the Ascheplatz at the Röntgen Stadium .
