The VfL 88 Naumburg (Association for physical exercises 1888 Naumburg) was a workers' sports club from the city of Naumburg (Saale) in what is now Saxony-Anhalt . His soccer team took part in games and the championship rounds of the ATSB in the Weimar Republic .

history

The club was founded in Naumburg (Saale) in 1888 and was initially called Freie Turnerschaft (FT) Naumburg . Although Naumburg was in the province of Saxony , the club belonged to the ATSB regional association Free Thuringian Football Association and played in the 5th ATSB district, which covered Thuringia and some neighboring areas.

In the 1922/23 season , the club became champions of the 5th ATSB district and was defeated 0: 3 in the semi-finals of the Central German Association Championship to TSV Nürnberg-Ost . In the 1923/24 season, VfL 88 Naumburg took fifth place in the 5th ATSB circle. As ATSB district champion in the 1926/27 season , the club took part in the Central German ATSB association championship and was defeated in the semifinals by Fortuna Dölau 4-5 after extra time. In the following season 1927/28 VfL 88 Naumburg was again district champion. After a 2-1 win against Sportfreunde Dessau, the club lost 2-0 to SV West 03 Leipzig in the final of the Central German Association Championship. In the following seasons 1928/29 and 1929/30, VfL 88 Naumburg took 4th place in the 5th ATSB circle.

After the seizure of power of the Nazis , the club was banned in 1933 and dissolved.
