The VfR Lübeck (completely: Club for Lawn Sports Lübeck ) was a football club from the Hanseatic city of Lübeck , which existed from the 1921/22 season to the 1931/32 season and during this time took part in the North German championship and in 1924 the championship in the Mecklenburg Oberliga / Lübeck, the top division at the time, won. It was created on July 3, 1921 through the merger of the two football clubs FC Allemannia Lübeck and FC Germania Lübeck; The club disbanded in spring 1932 due to financial difficulties and sold the Wilhelmshöhe sports facility to the SV Police Lübeck , many members also went to the SV Police, which was merged with VfB Lübeck in 1945 .

history

Presumably in order to bundle the forces in Lübschen football, the FK Alemannia Lübeck, founded on March 25, 1905, and the FC Germania Lübeck, founded in 1913, merged to form VfR Lübeck. Before the merger, only FC Alemannia Lübeck could take part once (1919) in the final round of the North German championship and failed 5-0 to Holstein Kiel. Otherwise, both clubs took only a few top positions in the Lübeck leagues.

The newly founded club rose to the Eastern District League in the first year of its existence with 23: 1 points and took third place straight away in the first season in the upper house. This made the VfR the number 2 in Lübeck football ahead of Gut Heil Lübeck and the Lübeck Turnerschaft . Also in the following year, the sporting rise of the Lübeck continued, this time the first place was achieved in the new district league Mecklenburg / Lübeck, with which the qualification for the North German championship went hand in hand. Like Allemannia five years earlier, VfR was eliminated again in the first round against Holstein Kiel, this time they lost 1: 5.

In the following years it was no longer possible to build on sporting successes. After first reaching a third place, you could only hold on to the relegation round in the top division in 1925/26 and 1929/30, although you seemed to be stronger again in the 1930 season with players like Otto and Wendland. In the 1929/30 season they finally saved themselves by defeating Germania Wismar after extra time, who was then forced to take part in the promotion round to the league. Also in 1931 they fought together with Schwerin 03 only against relegation after losing 4-5 to Oldesloer SV, among others. In the last season in which you participated, you could still beat the local rivals Police Lübeck and secure your league, but due to the emerging financial problems, the VfR not only had to use its Wilhelmshöhe sports complex, which was inaugurated on October 5, 1924 SV Police sell. Most of the members joined the SV Police. The association dissolved in the spring of 1932.

  • Participation in the North German soccer championship in 1924

Sports facility

The lawn sports club initially played its home games on the barracks courtyard on Fackenburger Allee before setting up its own sports facility on Schwartauer Allee in 1924. The Wilhelmshöhe sports field was opened on October 5, 1924 with a game against ABTS Bremen . For the 1931/32 season, when many VfR players transferred to the police, the sports facility was sold to the SV Police. Originally there were two playing fields at the sports facility and an area sufficient for the league. After a conversion measure by the police, however, part of this area was built on for other purposes and from then on no longer met the demands of the Gauligist and the new owner due to poor soil conditions.
