History and activities

The association was founded in 1984 under the name Inventory of Historic Traffic Routes of Switzerland (IVS) as an annex to the Geographical Institute of the University of Bern in order to compile the inventory of the same name on behalf of the federal administration . In 2003, the organization completed the federal commission for IVS and adopted its current name. In 2008 ViaStoria became self-employed and restructured the business activities:

ViaStoria - Foundation for Transport History

The foundation runs the research project Transport History Switzerland and coordinates the tourism project Cultural Routes Switzerland . The foundation publishes the biannual magazine Ways and History . In all fields of activity there is close cooperation with the University of Bern and with other national and international universities.

As part of the IVS, the supervision of the hour markers was transferred to the specialist organization ViaStoria. For example, this was implemented for the hour stones in the canton of Bern with the government council resolution (RRB3283 / 1978) in 1978.

ViaStoria Friends' Association

The ViaStoria support association gives private individuals, organizations and institutions the opportunity to support the preservation of historical traffic routes and research projects on traffic history.
