Vicente López (baseball player)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Vicente López Lara (born April 19, 1945 in Quebrada Seca , San Isidro , † October 10, 2010 ibid) was a Nicaraguan baseball player .

López, a member of his country's national team, was considered the most complete catcher in the history of Nicaraguan baseball. In his entire career he appeared in 792 games. On April 4, 2005, he was inducted into the Nicaraguan Sports Hall of Fame at the Estadio Nacional "Denis Martínez" . In August 2010, President Daniel Ortega personally awarded him the "Distinción Deportiva" medal.

López died after months of fighting cancer at the age of 55 or 65. The press releases are therefore not uniform. While the major Nicaraguan daily newspaper "La Prensa" states in its first reports an age of death of 55 years, other sources cite 1945 as the date of birth.
