Vicente Pérez Rosales

Vicente Pérez Rosales (born April 5, 1807 in Santiago de Chile , † September 6, 1886 ibid) was a Chilean adventurer, politician, diplomat and writer.

He was one of the organizers of German immigration to the Llanquihue province in southern Chile in the mid-19th century. In October 1850 he was appointed colonization commissioner by the Chilean government to succeed Bernhard Eunom Philippi .

On February 12, 1853, he founded the settlement Melipulli, today's Puerto Montt .

He was later a member of the Chilean parliament (1861–1864) and senator (1876–1881).

The Chilean National Park Vicente Pérez Rosales is named after him.
