The Aufkirchen power plant is a hydropower plant on the Mittlere-Isar Canal in the Aufkirchen part of the municipality of Oberding in the Erding district .

It is one of the run -of-river power stations that form the power station stairs on the Mittlere-Isar Canal . The power plant was built by Mittlere Isar AG together with the sister plants Finsing , Eitting and Pfrombach , which were later taken over by Bayernwerk , which in turn was merged into E.ON , the parent company of the former operator E.ON Wasserkraft GmbH , from which it was converted came to Uniper Kraftwerke GmbH .

The power plant has a gradient of 26.4 m. Heavy plate gates hang in the narrow hall of the intake structure , with which the water can be shut off in an emergency. The force of the falling contactors is absorbed by oil pressure brakes. From the intake structure, the water is led in 4 large pressure pipes with a diameter of 5 m and a length of around 25 m to the four Francis turbines in the machine hall that is perpendicular to the canal. The machine hall is 83 m long, 18 m wide and has a height of 21 m above the machine floor.

In the Aufkirchen power plant and in the technically similar Eitting power plant, the Francis turbines were designed horizontally for the first time with a vertical shaft and each with a generator mounted above it on a strong vault. The electrical output of the power plant is 27 MW. The Francis turbines originally supplied by Neumeyer in Munich have a speed of 166.66 / min, a maximum throughput of 48 m³ / s and an output of 9559 kW. Messrs. Neumeyer went during the execution of the power plant Aufkirchen in bankruptcy , so the order from the company. Voith was completed. The power plant generates three-phase current with two generators and traction current with the other two generators . The machine hall is surrounded by transformer and counter halls. Since the insulation used to contain a large amount of oil-soaked paper, the systems could not be set up outdoors as is common today.

To the west of the machine hall is the so-called empty shot, a channel through which the water can be directed past the power plant. The architectural design for the power plant comes from Herman Sörgel . The building is a listed building .

Until a few years ago, the power plant still had its own control center, but as part of the power plant stairs it has always had to be controlled in harmony with the other power plants. For this purpose, it received the specifications from the Neufinsing power plant , in which all relevant data was coordinated. Later, the Aufkirchen power plant, like all E.ON Wasserkraft power plants along the Mittlere-Isar Canal, was centrally monitored and controlled by the Neufinsing power plant. In the Aufkirchen power plant, personnel are therefore only required for the necessary maintenance and repair work. Since May 1, 2011, all E.ON Wasserkraft power plants on the Isar, Lech and Danube have been controlled from their headquarters in Landshut .

There is also an information center in the power plant. Visits are possible by appointment by telephone. On the in-house parking lot there is an old, large water wheel from an Erdinger mill as well as an impeller from a smaller Kaplan turbine and an impeller from a Pelton turbine from the Walchensee power plant . South of the power plant is the 3.5 m high base pyramid of the Unterföhring – Aufkirchen base line for the first survey of Bavaria from 1801.

The Altenerding – Pfrombach railway line was built for the construction.
