The Isar Plant 2 is a hydropower plant on the Isar .
The 1921-1923 built plant is located on Flaucher in Munich district Sendling . Until the modernization in 2010, the electrical output of 2.2 MW was generated by two Francis turbines , each with an output of 1,100 kW . The operator of the power plant is Stadtwerke München . The power plant is not located directly on the Isar, but is supplied with water from an approx. 12 km long Isar works canal diverted from Buchenhain , most of which flows back into the Isar at the Braunau railway bridge .
Between 2008 and 2010, Isarwerk 2 was modernized to increase performance. After the temporary shutdown in March 2009, the building was renovated and rebuilt. The two Francis twin twin turbines were replaced by four Kaplan turbines with vertical shafts . All four turbines together have a total output of 2,520 kilowatts and will in future deliver around 15 million kilowatt hours of electricity per year instead of the previous 11.4. The average efficiency increased from 60% to over 80%.
