The Obernach power plant is located on the toll road on the southern bank of the Walchensee, immediately south of the hamlet of Einsiedl . The power plant is formally included in the Altlach district of the Jachenau community .

The run-of-river power plant , which went into operation in 1955, uses the water from the Isar overpass from the Isar near Krün to Lake Walchensee . The bridge is primarily used to feed the Walchensee, as it serves as the upper water basin of the Walchensee power plant . In the course of the bridge, the water passes the Sachensee. The Obernach power plant uses the 68 m difference in altitude in the Obernach tunnel between the Sachensee and Walchensee to generate energy. In contrast to the Walchensee power plant, at the time of construction, care was taken to hide the water lock and the pressure pipeline to the two turbines in the mountain. The plant, operated temporarily by E.ON Wasserkraft and since 2016 by Uniper Kraftwerke , has an output of 12.8 MW. The grid connection is made via a switchgear on site at the 20 kV medium voltage level in the power grid of the distribution network operator Bayernwerk AG .
