Altlach (from Latin altus lacus : "high lake") - on the south bank of the Walchensee - is one of the 27 districts of the smallest independent municipality in Bavaria, Jachenau .

geography

Altlach is named after the stream of the same name , on whose rubble cone the largest property (house name "Bräu" after 5 generations of Bräu, formerly forester's house Altlach, house number 59) is located.

Altlach comprises four former rural properties over a distance of 1900 meters, which were built there in the years 1703 and 1704 at the behest of or with the permission of the Benediktbeuern monastery . In addition, some buildings near Einsiedl three kilometers to the west of Altlach are calculated to be south of the Obernach Canal at its confluence with the Walchensee, including the Obernach power station . The same applies to some properties near Obernach ( Wallgau municipality ), which are east of the historical border between the Ettal and Benediktbeuern monasteries . On the basis of these assignments, Altlach comprised 13 buildings with living space (and 17 apartments with 40 inhabitants) at the state of the census on May 25, 1987 and, following a resolution of the Bavarian State Ministry of the Interior from 1950, was therefore not a hamlet (three to nine buildings with Living space), but typified as a village . This formal typification does not correspond to the conditions of the settlement area.

The four traditional properties are marked with the Jachenau house numbers 56, 57, 58 and 59. Since the next higher house number 60 (the highest house number in the municipality of Jachenau) was already assigned to the Einödhof Ochsensitz in the Isar valley, the newer buildings near Einsiedl and Obernach were given fraction house numbers such as 59 1/2 (former forester's house Einsiedl, which is now the youth center Walchensee houses) and 59 1/3 (Oskar von Miller Institute Obernach, Research Institute for Hydraulic Engineering and Water Management of the Chair for Hydraulic Engineering and Water Management at the Technical University of Munich).

Scattered settlement

Since Altlach is an unusual scattered settlement and therefore has an unusual expansion, the coordinates of the individual buildings are documented:

history

Altlach forester's house around 1906
Initials Ludwig II at the forester's house Altlach

The four Sölden in Altlach (Breitort 56, Christoph 57, Mattheis 58, Bräu 59) as well as in Niedernach 55 were built in 1703 and 1704 - “with the permission of the monastery”. In connection with the establishment of a defense corps by Abbot Eliland II of the Benediktbeuern monastery in 1702 against attacks from Tyrol, the “permission” should rather be seen as the intention of the monastery to set up this “empty” space on the southern bank of the Walchensee with able-bodied men as an “outpost” Occupy duration. Four of the first owners are also named in the personnel lists of the two Jachenau corporations from 1702.

The Breitort peninsula gave the first of the four original properties its name, although the Breitorter is not on the headland, but in front of its western side. Jakob Sachsenbacher, the unmarried hunter's son from Sachsenbach, “was allowed to build a dwelling on the Altlaflöck in 1704, and it was the same size as the others (3 properties on the south bank). He also likes to keep a cow. Annual valid 1 fl, pen money 1 kr and letter money 1 kr. "

Richard Wagner monument on the south bank of the Walchensee near the Bräu

The westernmost and largest courtyard is the “Bräu” at number 59. Located directly on the bank, the back of the Bräu (former “Forsthaus Altlach”) faces the lake and the cold winds that come from the north and the cut on the Kesselberg unchecked sweep across the lake. In 1843 the new, today's courtyard was built 50 meters west of the old building. Italian construction workers pull up the stone walls, 450 m³ of wood are processed, the roof has a self-supporting structure. The hallways and stairs are generous, almost stately dimensioned. One has the impression that the Bavarian royal family was involved here. It is no coincidence that the initials of Ludwig II of Bavaria were later placed on the roof and above the balcony door. During his visits to the Hochkopf, he used the corner room in the southeast corner on the upper floor to freshen up. There is no guarantee that he stayed there. What is certain, however, is that the king even used the meadow in front of the forester's house in Altlach as a location for a cabinet meeting outdoors.

Richard Wagner spent some days on the Altlacher Hochkopf in August 1865 at the invitation of Ludwig II, his royal friend, which were less pleasant because of the bad weather . A mighty granite with a bronze memorial plaque opposite the Bräu, at the beginning of the path to Altlacher Hochkopf, reminds of this 'Hochkopf episode'.
