The Maximilianswerk (also called Maxwerk for short ) is a run-of-river power plant on the Auer Mühlbach in Munich . Stadtwerke München is the operator of the power plant .

The Maximilianswerk is located just below the Maximiliansbrücke on the right bank of the Isar in the Maximiliansanlagen . For its operation, the Auer Mühlbach, which originally flowed into the Isar just above the bridge, was channeled under the bridge and passed underground under the power plant.

The Maximilianswerk is one of the oldest hydropower plants still in operation in Bavaria . It went into operation in 1895 after a year of construction. So that it would not attract attention near the Maximilianeum , Carl Hocheder built it in the style of a baroque garden or hunting lodge. The direct current generator connected to the Francis turbine delivered approx. 300 kW (660 V at 225 A) with a usable drop distance of 3.30 to 5.70 m and a water volume between 8 and 15 m³ / s.

The hydroelectric power station was rebuilt in 1953 and 1976, with the Francis turbine being replaced by a propeller turbine in 1953 and the direct current generator being replaced by an alternating current generator in 1976 . These modifications increased the output to 410 kW.

The apartment on the upper floor of the power plant was still inhabited until the 1970s.
