Vicente T. Mendoza

Vicente Teódulo Mendoza Gutiérrez (born January 27, 1894 in Cholula de Rivadavia , † October 27, 1964 in Mexico City ) was a Mexican musicologist.

Mendoza came to Mexico City in 1907, where he studied music theory from 1914 to 1916. Following on from the work of Nicolás León and Manuel María Ponce , he devoted himself to research into Mexican folklore. In 1929 he became professor of music theory at the National Conservatory of Mexico, and later he was also appointed music inspector for elementary schools. In 1938 he founded the Sociedad Folklórica de México , whose first president he became. With his wife Virginia Rodríguez Rivera he founded Mexico's first school for folklore studies. From 1936 until his death he worked at the Institute for Aesthetic Research of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México .
