Victor Cordero Gonzales
Victor Cordero Gonzales (born May 13, 1893 in Yungay , † September 16, 1949 ) was a Peruvian singer and composer.
Cordero studied music at the Escuela de Artes y Oficios in Huaráz. He later became a member of the orchestra of the Policía Nacional in Lima, of which he was a member until 1921. In that year he married Justina Romero Ramírez , with whom he had eleven children. They initially lived in Chavin for two years, where Cordero was a member of the local council and founded the Banda de musicos de la Municipalidad de Chavin de huantar . The musicians Artemio La Rosa Bardales , Huiscu Marcelo , Claudio Mejía , Chuspi Toribio , Silvio Moreno and Manuel Cotrina emerged from this orchestra .
In 1934 he returned to his hometown as a professor of music and singing and directed the band and orchestra of the Escuela Normal Ignacio Amadeo Ramos in Tingua. From 1938 until his death in 1949 he was professor of music and director of the Banda de Músicos at the Colegio Nacional Santa Inés in Yungay. With Juan Olivera Cortez he built the orchestra Sol de Oro de Yungay in the 1930s . He was also the founder of the Lira Huaylina string orchestra in Caraz.
Cordero composed more than 100 waltzes, marches, pasodobles and marineros, including popular pieces such as Azucena blanca flor , El aborrecido , Huanchaco , Lejos y ausente , El estudiante and Buen colegial . His compositions have been interpreted by musicians such as Jacinto Palacios Zaragoza , María Alvarado Trujillo , Angélica Harada Vásquez , Juan Rosales and Asunta Tupac .
