Viktor Sergeevich Fadin

Viktor Sergejewitsch Fadin ( Russian Виктор Сергеевич Фадин , English transcription Victor Fadin; born November 28, 1942 in Poperetschnoje, Novosibirsk Oblast ) is a Russian theoretical physicist who deals with quantum chromodynamics .

Fadin studied at the Novosibirsk State University and was from 1965 at the Budker Institute for Nuclear Physics, where he became a senior scientist. From 2001 to 2012 he headed the theory department there. In 1983 he completed his habilitation (Russian doctorate). He has also been a professor at the Novosibirsk State University since 1993.

He is one of the authors of the Balitsky-Fadin-Kuraev-Lipatov (BFKL) equations of the perturbative QCD from the 1970s (with Lev Nikolajewitsch Lipatow , Eduard A. Kurajew, Janko Balizki). Together with the DGLAP evolution equations (for Dokschizer , Gribow , Lipatow, Guido Altarelli , Giorgio Parisi ) it forms the basis for understanding high-energy (hard) QCD scattering processes, such as those studied at the LHC at CERN or at the Hera storage rings at DESY were. While the DGLAP applies to large four-pulse transfers and Bjorken scaling that is not too small , the BFKL applies to processes with a small x and not too large . In the mid-1970s, Fadin and colleagues predicted a sharp increase in the cross sections with increasing energy, which was later observed at Hera.

In 2015 he received the Pomerantschuk Prize and in 2001 he received the Humboldt Research Prize . He was a visiting scientist at DESY.
