Victor Gollancz Ltd. was a large British publisher founded by Victor Gollancz in 1927 that published high-level literature as well as entertainment and science fiction . Well-known authors such as George Orwell , Daphne du Maurier , Kingsley Amis and Anthony Price published their first works with Gollancz. Dorothy L. Sayers published some of her most successful crime novels with Gollancz, including Aufruhr in Oxford (1935).

The publishing house was sold to Houghton Mifflin in 1989 and on to Cassell in 1992 . In 1998 the Orion Publishing Group acquired the publisher and has since published contemporary and classic works of science fiction literature under the Gollancz Science Fiction brand .
