The Nováček Quartet

Victor Nováček (* 1875 in Temesvár , Kingdom of Hungary , Austria-Hungary , † March 3, 1914 in Helsinki ) was a Czech music teacher and violinist.

Life

Martin Nováček's son performed in string quartets with his father between the ages of thirteen and fourteen, played the violin part of Bedřich Smetana's Trio op.15 and performed Niccolò Paganini's 1st violin concerto with the city's Philharmonic Society . He then studied in Prague and Leipzig, where he received the Robert Schumann Prize, and was a student of Joseph Joachim in Berlin .

In 1894 he became concertmaster of the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra and professor of violin at the city's music academy. In 1904 he played the world premiere of the first version of Jean Sibelius ' Violin Concerto in D minor under the direction of the composer. His brothers Ottokar , Rudolf and Karl Nováček also became known as musicians.
