description

The Victoria Institute is located in the city center on Main Street , the main street in the city. The two-story building dates from 1887 and is one of the few remaining historical buildings in the city. On the street side, the property is delimited by a flat wall with a cast iron fence and slim gate pillars. The brickwork of the elongated Victoria Institute is made of red sandstone . The central, two-winged entrance door closes with a simple window and a flat segmental arch. There is a single, narrow window above it. The part of the building to the left of the door protrudes somewhat and is provided with two triplet windows. To the right of the door, however, there are only twin windows. A ribbon with the inscription "Victoria Institute 1887" runs between the floors. In contrast to the east-facing front, only roughly hewn sandstone and no ashlar is used on the remaining outer walls. Five windows per floor are arranged asymmetrically along the south side. The building ends with a hipped roof that is covered with gray slate shingles.
