Victorinus von Poetovio or Victorinus von Pettau († 304 ) was bishop of Poetovio (Eng. Pettau, today Ptuj in Slovenia ) on the Drava . He is the author of the oldest surviving Latin Bible commentary , in which he Book of Revelation interpreted .

Little is known about his life, but Jerome mentions him. Possibly he came from the Greek-speaking part of the Roman Empire . Victorinus is considered the first ecclesiastical writer from the Balkan and Danube provinces and the earliest Latin biblical exegete . Little has been preserved from his presumably extensive literature.

Victorinus was critical of the Roman state power. He turned against heresies, but tended to chiliasm himself .

Victorinus was murdered during the Diocletian persecution and is venerated as a saint in the Roman Catholic Church . The day of remembrance is on November 2nd in both the Orthodox and Catholic Churches (in the Graz-Seckau diocese on November 3rd).
