Video Art Holland bv (VAH) is a Dutch production company that produces pornographic images and films.
History, structure and business philosophy
The story of Video Art Holland began in 1967 , which at that time still bore the name of the founder and publisher Jan Wenderhold. She began by publishing a sub-culturally colored pornographic contact magazine called Chick . Specialized magazines like Chick Extreme were added later.
The first issue of Seventeen magazine appeared in the Netherlands in 1975, and in 1978 the first German licensed edition. In 1979 the company was renamed to its current name. This was in response to more and more porn companies turning away from Super 8 and starting to produce videos. Back then it was still in the old VCR, LVR (Longitudinal Video Recording) or SVR formats. The Betamax system was about to start. But since it was not yet possible to predict which format would prevail, the successful magazines were initially used.
Seventeen magazine got several offshoots, for example teenagers or school girls . Club Seventeen has been on the Internet since 1994 . At first, Seventeen was not a continuous hardcore magazine, but also had softcore, sex advice sites, letters to the editor, personals and also critical articles about the porn industry. Although child pornography was still legal in the Netherlands until 1985 , pornographic photo shoots with models under 16 were strictly rejected. The 1985 tightened Dutch law (§ 240) allowed pornographic photos with models from 16. Distribution in practically all other European countries was legal, as these countries all had lower age limits (e.g. 14 in Germany or Austria). These magazines were illegal in the USA and Canada , but on the other hand they were not intended for this market. Customers who imported the magazines against the warning from "Video Art Holland" were threatened with child pornography charges if they were discovered by the customs authorities.
In the course of time, the images in the magazines became more explicit, and reprint series such as Teeners from Holland or Seventeen Special were founded, which were multilingual, had no more articles or letters to the editor, pure hardcore magazines . The Dutch edition continued as before. Seventeen has also been available on video since the mid-1980s . The late entry into the video genre is based on the fear of relying on the wrong video system. Numerous porn companies in the Netherlands went bankrupt because they were still using the Super8 format at the end of the 1970s or, in the 1980s, for example, the VCR video format that was later not implemented. Around 500 VHS videos have been released by Video Art Holland, and DVDs have also been released since 1998 .
The printed publications are published in the Netherlands by the publishers Scala BV Amsterdam and Profil BV Amsterdam . In Germany, the publications are published by Z. BF Wiesbaden . The videos are also published by Scala in the Netherlands and as a licensed product by Videorama in Essen in Germany . Seventeen has since taken over direct sales for the DVDs. A license was only granted for North America (the title Seventeen is forbidden there for a porn series due to an allusion to minority).
Arthur Martin has been the responsible man behind Video Art Holland since 1979. Seventeen is one of the largest pornographic labels in Europe. Unlike other series in other countries, the female Seventeen models are mostly younger than 20 years. Because of the threatened implementation of Sec. 18 § 2257, which forbids pornographic recordings under 18-year-old models, at the end of 1999, Video Art Holland decided not to work with 16- and 17-year-old models. On October 1, 2002, the tightening of § 240 came into force, since then only pornographic recordings with persons over the age of 18 have been permitted in the Netherlands. The Seventeen magazines also differ from the competition because the models were less often professional porn actors than amateurs. The recordings themselves mostly only depict the sexual act itself, so that there are almost no framework actions.
The productions pay attention to a women-friendly language, which means that the magazines were also popular with a target group that feels repulsed by normal pornography. Foreign competition is largely absent. On the contrary, foreign producers of relevant material produce for Seventeen. A particularly successful sub-label is the Excuse Me… series , in which director and producer Horny Harry creates its own pornographic world. It is largely in German, partly with German protagonists and above all for the German market.
