Vidmantas Urbonas

Vidmantas Urbonas (born April 28, 1958 in Panevėžys ) is a Lithuanian extreme athlete .

Career

Urbonas is a triathlete and long distance swimmer . In 1998 he won the first Double Deca Ultratriathlon in Mexico . He covered the required 76 km swimming , 3600 km cycling and 844 km running in 437 hours, 21 minutes and 40 seconds. In 1999 he managed to cover 460 km on the Memel within eight days . In the process, however, he suffered kidney damage . His attempt to cross the English Channel from France to England over a distance of 33 km, he had to give up in 2006 because of excessive waves.

In late July 2007, he tried the Baltic Sea to swim a length of 209 km, to draw attention to the environmental problems of the Baltic Sea. Due to the difficult weather conditions, he had to cancel his project. In the first six days, however, he had already completed more than half the distance. In August of that year, however, he managed to cross the Baltic Sea between Latvia and Gotland for 145 km . It took him eight days for this route.

In his hometown of Panevėžys he works as a sports director.
