Ultratriathlon

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The ultratriathlon has established itself over the years as a separate triathlon discipline. Competitions are held over the multiple Ironman distance.

organization

The best known are the Double Ultratriathlon (2 ×), the Triple Ultratriathlon (3 ×), the Quintuple Ultratriathlon (5 ×) and the Deca Ultratriathlon (10 ×).

Even more extreme competitions over twenty or thirty times the ultratriathlon distance are extremely rare:

  • Two Double Deca Ultratriathlons (20 ×) took place in Buchs SG (Switzerland) from August 14th to September 2nd, 2016 and from August 12th to 31st, 2019 .
  • A Double Deca + 1 ultramarathon (21 ×) took place in Lonato del Garda (Italy) in August 2013 .
  • A Triple Deca Ultratriathlon (30 ×) took place from September 8th to October 8th 2013 in Lonato del Garda (Italy).

The official competitions are carried out under the regulations of the World Ultratriathlon Association IUTA (International Ultra Triathlon Association). The world championship in ultratriathlon is usually held over two or three times the distance.

Distances

The baseline distances are 2.4 miles of swimming (3.862.4 km), 112 miles of cycling (180.246.5 km), and a marathon run (42.195 km). That adds up to 140.62 miles (226.304 km).

  • The new variant (one per day / an ultra triathlon every day) had its world premiere in 2006 in Monterrey / Mexico.

2) The Triple Deca Ultratriathlon was previously only available in one variant:

  • 30 Ironmans on 30 consecutive days (2013 on Lake Garda, 21 participants)
