Lomas de Zamora is the name of an administrative area ( Partido ) of the Argentine province of Buenos Aires and also the name of its capital. It is part of the Gran Buenos Aires metropolitan area and is located around 15 kilometers south of the center of the city of Buenos Aires.
A total of around 591,345 people (2001) live in the 89 km² Partido . In the decade before the last reporting period, the population increased by about three percent. For 2007, the population was estimated at 619,527.

Lomas de Zamora is separated from the actual Buenos Aires in the north by the extremely polluted Riachuelo River . The local university, the Universidad de Lomas de Zamora (UNLZ), is one of the largest in Greater Buenos Aires.
Sports
The Lomas Athletic Club is one of the co-founders of Argentine football. In 1893 he became the second club to receive the Argentine championship honors. By 1909 five more state championships were added. But the great successes should not last long after the pioneering days of this sport.
