history

Los Polvorines train station

The Partido was founded on October 20, 1994 with the Provincial Law 1151 by dividing the former Partido General Sarmiento into the Partidos San Miguel , José C. Paz and Malvinas Argentinas.

The name of the partidos symbolizes Argentina's claim to the Falkland Islands ( Islas Malvinas in Spanish ) belonging to Great Britain , which are about 395 km off the coast of southern Argentina. The Partido coat of arms also shows a map of the archipelago.
