Astrid Benöhr
Astrid Benöhr (born October 8, 1957 in Bergisch Gladbach ) is a former German ultra-triathlete .
Career
In 1987 she finished her first long-distance triathlon in Finland. In 1989 she started at the Ironman Hawaii (Ironman World Championships) and finished 661st in the overall standings and 57th in the women with a time of 11:14:20 h. She was 2:14 hours behind the winner Paula Newby-Fraser . At Ironman Europe 1991 in Roth , Franconia , she finished in a time of 10:25:15 h. 460th place overall and 12th place for women. She was 1:30 h behind the winner Thea Sybesma . When she took part in the Ultratriathlon in Almere, Holland in 1990, she finished 180th in the overall ranking and fifth among women (11:14:14 h) and in 1991 467th overall and 13th place among women (11:37: 27 h).
Between 1992 and 2005 Benöhr won the Triple Ultra Triathlon in Lensahn thirteen times , during which she became the unofficial world champion of the IUTA in 1998, 2000 and 2003. The IUTA is an association in Austria and not an official association. The competition in Lensahn is not an event approved by the German Triathlon Union (DTU). Benöhr holds the unofficial world record for four times the Ironman distance and, according to his own statements, was one of the people in the world who have completed the most Ironman distances. (As of March 2016)
Benöhr is a biological-technical assistant by profession. She is the mother of three children and lives in her native Bergisch Gladbach in the Bergisches Land .
criticism
In many races completed over the so-called "ultra-distances" in the 1990s, there was no official lap counting, time measurement or doping controls. The events held by Benöhr in Luckau and Kerpen in the 1990s were not competitions. She competed alone without an opponent, competition management or controls. The care arose from the people in their family environment. The thesis put forward by Benöhr that she was even faster than the men cannot be substantiated and, taking into account lists of results from other events, must be denied. She made this statement known through the tabloid press. If you compare her results with those of official ultra-competitions in Almere, Roth and Hawaii, she is neither in the overall standings nor in the top among women. At the Deca Triathlon in Mexico in 1998, she was observed by various witnesses as she had shortened without permission on the running track at night. She was then disqualified by the competition management.
