Vido Jelashe (* 1967 ; bourgeois Vuyani Mbutuma ) is a South African singer living in Berlin .

biography

Vido Jelashe was born and raised in Guguletu Township, Cape Town , South Africa , during the apartheid system . From an early age he was inspired by music from his grandmother. His career started in 1986 in Cape Town with the reggae band Reggae Regulars . Then, from 1988, he sang for The Black Sufferers .

In 1992 he successfully completed his jazz studies in Cape Town and worked as a singer in the Heavy Fantastics . In 1993 he was discovered in South Africa by the manager of the German reggae band Livin 'Spirits , who invited him to Germany. Vido Jelashe recorded an album there with Livin 'Spirits ("Free The Children", 1994) and toured Europe with them. In 1996 he began his solo career in Berlin, Germany, with the backing band The Growing Tree , with whom he recorded two albums ("Vido meets The Growing Tree", 1997; "Live", 1999 with Pängg Distribution).

Vido Jelashe released individual tracks with artists such as Schreiner (Fake Brother), Volker Meitz (Africa), Noiseshaper (Only Redeemer & We Love Reggae) and his cousin Black Dillinger-Dangerous Times (Live & Learn, album 2007 MKZWO Records)

He also appeared on some One Riddim samplers such as the Superior Riddim with the song "Babylon A Take Control" ( Pow Pow Productions ), the Caesar Riddim with "Wata Com 'Outta We Eye" (Grooving Smokers) and the Time X. Riddim with "Too Much Provocation" (MKZWO Records). He worked with the "Burnin 'Brass Club" and released the single "Angelina feat. Leonard Mason".

Since 2006 Vido has been the singer of the Berlin dub band Tiger Hifi. A crew consisting of Olivia Christou, Peter Barton (guitars) and the producer Kraans de Lutin on the dubs and effects. Between 2009-2010 he recorded a CD with Den Richard & I Projekt, "Babylon Must Go Down" and toured Austria. In 2012 he took part in the talent game show The Winner is ... and made it to the semifinals. In the same year the title "Throne Gone Down" from the "Danger In Your Eyes Riddim Mix" by the Revolutionary Brothers was released. This is followed by the "Best Things-Rise Up Riddim Mix" on Oneness Records in 2014.
