The cross for demonstrated marching skills , or four days cross ( Dutch : Vierdaagsekruis ) for short , is a Dutch medal that is awarded for participating in the four-day Nijmegen march.
history
The medal has been awarded since 1909 by the Nederlandse Bond voor Lichamelijke Opvoeding , which has been known as the Koninklijke Nederlandse Bond voor Lichamelijke Opvoeding since 1958 , to all participants in the four-day march who have successfully completed the march. According to the royal decision of Queen Wilhelmina on October 26, 1909, it was allowed to be worn by infantrymen on their uniforms , later by all soldiers in the army and then also by soldiers in the navy and air forces . Foreign soldiers and civilians also take part in the march .
layout
The four-day cross consists of a five-armed cross on a yellow ribbon with green stripes. On the arms of the cross is the abbreviation of the association (until 1958 "NBVLO", since 1959 "KNBLO").
The medal is awarded in different copies depending on the number of participants in the four-day march:
- 1st participation: bronze cross
- 2. Participation: bronze cross with crown
- 3rd and 4th participation: bronze cross with crown and number on ribbon
- 5. Participation: Silver Cross
- 6. Participation: silver cross with crown
- 7th to 9th participation: silver cross with crown and number on ribbon
- 10. Participation: Gold Cross
- 11. Participation: gold cross with crown
- Participation 12 to 24: gold cross with crown and number on ribbon
- 25th to 39th participation: number in an orange plate with a laurel wreath
- from the 40th, 50th, 60th and 70th participation, the cross and the number are designed differently
Strap buckle
In Germany, Bundeswehr soldiers , law enforcement officers from the Federal Police and helpers from the Federal Agency for Technical Relief are allowed to wear the four-day cross as a ribbon buckle on their uniform.
While the Dutch strap buckles have the number of march participations as a requirement, a different system is used in Germany, which is based on the colors of the respective stages:
- 1st participation: strap buckle without support
- 2. Participation: ribbon buckle with bronze crown
- 5. Participation: ribbon buckle with silver crown
- 10. Participation: ribbon buckle with golden crown
In Germany, numbers are usually not shown.
