Viktor Petschnik

Viktor Petschnik (born July 21, 1899 in Villach ; † July 8, 1951 there ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and railway employee. He was a member of the Austrian National Council and mayor of Villach.

Life

Petschnik attended elementary school and learned the trade of a locksmith. He entered the service of the Federal Railroad in 1921 and worked as secretary of the railway workers' union. After he was Vice Mayor of Landskron, he was sentenced to one and a half years in prison for political reasons. After the Second World War, Petschnik was appointed "Commissary Lord Mayor of Villach" on the instructions of the provisional Carinthian provincial government and subsequently served as mayor of Villach until 1951. He also represented the SPÖ from December 19, 1945 until his death in the National Council.

The Viktor-Petschnik-Hof, built in the 1960s, was named in his honor.
