Viktor Sarris

Viktor Sarris (born December 1, 1939 in Cologne ) is a professor emeritus for psychology, especially general psychology at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main . His focus is on psychophysics and perceptual psychology as well as the history of psychology.

Life

Sarris studied psychology, psychiatry and philosophy at the universities of Hamburg and Freiburg im Breisgau from 1959 . He completed this in 1965 as a qualified psychologist. It was 1966 on the psychophysics and the adaptation level theory at the University of Hamburg Dr. phil. doctorate and habilitation in 1970 at the University of Düsseldorf on perception and judgment: reference systems in psychophysics .

Sarris is the son of the animal psychologist and educator Emanuel Georg Sarris (1899–1971) and the educationalist Irmgard Sarris (1917–2015). 

He taught at the University of Düsseldorf (1971–1972) and the JW Goethe University at the Max-Wertheimer Chair for Psychology (1973–2005). He declined offers to the universities of Mainz (1970), Hagen (1976) and Greifswald (1992, founding professorship). 

In his work he mainly dealt with psychological methodology, psychophysics in humans and animals, perceptual psychology and the history of psychology. He researched cognitive psychophysics (" relational psychophysics ") at different ages in humans and animals. He has also published works on the life and work of Max Wertheimer and Wolfgang Köhler in Germany and the USA.
