Vilifier is an Australian death metal band from Brisbane that was formed in 2007.

history

The band was formed in 2007. After a first demo in mid-2011 called Rehearsal MMXI , the live album Ritual Onslaught MMXII followed in mid-2012 via Supremacy Through Intolerance Records . In the following year the split- release Oldenfiend / Serpent was released with Lustration and the EP Ritual Obscuration via Crawling Chaos Productions . The group is currently on pause indefinitely.

style

According to Brian Giffin in his Encyclopedia of Australian Heavy Metal , the band plays wild old-school death metal. Dustin Ekman found on crownofviserys.wordpress.com that Ritual Obscuration features classic corrupt-sounding Death Metal. The riffs are kept simple and the electric guitars and bass have a dirty sound. The drums are aggressive and the EP has a lo-fi production overall . The sound carrier also contains influences from Black Metal and occasionally from Death Doom . The singing is also striking, reminding one of death, destruction and disorder. The EP is suitable for fans of Darkthrone , Gravehill , Corpsessed , early Gorefest or Asphyx . Michael Kujawska from voicesfromthedarkside.de also reviewed the EP and wrote that the band calls their music "Ancient Barbaric Death Metal". He was reminded of Darkthrone in 1991 while listening to the music. The group does not sound like a copy, but both groups have in common that they play Death Metal, but are not familiar with the classic sound of the genre. The production is raw and more like a Black Metal group. The drums do without blastbeats and double bass . The group started out as a death metal band and, like Darkthrone, are now moving more towards black metal. The singing is also more reminiscent of this genre. The music is mostly in the medium speed range and shows, in addition to black metal influences, influences of Finnish death metal.
