Gravehill is an American black , thrash and death metal band from Anaheim , California that was founded in 2001, broke up shortly afterwards and has been active again since 2006.

history

The band was formed in 2001 and consisted of three members. In the same year the first demo The Practitioners of Fell Sorcery appeared . Shortly after the release, the band broke up.

In 2006 the band was re-formed by original members, drummer Rhett "Thorgrimm" Davis and singer Mike Abominator. From 2007 to 2009 the band released the EP Metal of Death / The Advocation of Murder and Suicide and the album Rites of Pentagram via Enucleation Records . Shortly after the album was released, Enucleation Records broke up. As a result, the label lost the rights to both sound carriers, which made it possible for Ibex Moon Records to publish them as a compilation combined with a live DVD under the name Rites of the Pentagram / Metal of Death . In the summer of 2010 the group went on tour through the USA, with Matt "Hellfiend" Harvey ( Exhumed , Dekapitator , Repulsion ) taking part as the new guitarist . In 2011, the band played at Maryland Death Fest to promote their album When All Roads Lead to Hell , which was released on Dark Descent Records . Towards the end of the year they toured the West Coast of the United States with Impiety . In 2012 the guitarists CC DeKill and Hell Messiah replaced the previous members Matt Harvey and Bob "Bodybag Bob" Babcock, as both were already on tour with Exhumed. A little later, bassist Jason Thomas "JT Corpse" Bumby joined them. In 2014 the next album Death Crusade was released . Among others, Kam Lee from Massacre and Eric Cutler and Chris Reifert from Autopsy can be heard as guest musicians. Scott Carlson of Repulsion was also planned as a guest musician, but the schedule did not work out.

style

According to Patrick Schmidt, the band on Death Crusade play a mixture of Thrash, Black and Death Metal. According to the drummer Rhett "Thorgrimm" Davis, who understands the band as a death metal project, in an interview with Schmidt the band by groups such as was Slayer , Slaughter , Venom , Autopsy, Sodom , Hellhammer , Massacre, Celtic Frost and Death influenced been . According to Robert Müller from Metal Hammer, the band played a mixture of Thrash and Black Metal on the compilation Rites of the Pentagram / Metal of Death , with influences from bands like Destruction and Venom. Müller assigned the song Decibel Ritual to Death Metal, while the song A Celebration of Wounds shows influences from Doom Metal .
