Villa-Maria is a subway station in Montreal . It is located in the arrondissement of Côte-des-Neiges-Notre-Dame-de-Grâce at the intersection of Boulevard Décarie and Avenue de Monkland. Trains on orange line 2 run here . In 2006, 2,761,290 passengers used the station, which corresponds to 32nd place out of a total of 68 stations on Metro Montreal .

The station designed by André Léonard was created as a tunnel station , with the central part being an open construction . This construction gives a spacious impression despite the depth. The walls are clad with corrugated white concrete panels, interrupted by colorful stripes in autumn colors that continue on the floor tiles. Stairs and escalators lead up to the distribution level . This is located in the entrance pavilion , which is surrounded by a bus turning loop.

The platform level with two side platforms is 19.8 meters deep . The distances to the neighboring stations, measured from station end to station start, are 884.41 meters to Snowdon and 1407.32 meters to Vendôme . There are connections to three bus routes operated by the Société de transport de Montréal . Nearby are the Villa Maria and the Marianopolis College .

Decorative elements

Architect André Léonard was also involved in the artistic design of the station. Large panes of polymer cement and steel in the colors of autumn adorn the walls of the platforms. The discs have slots that are arranged so that they give the impression of movement.

history

The station opened on September 7, 1981, along with the section between Place-Saint-Henri and Snowdon. It is named after the Villa Maria, a traditional Catholic girls' school that was still a residence of the governor general in the middle of the 19th century . It is named after Ville-Marie , the original name of Montreal.
