Snowdon is a subway station in Montreal . It is located in the Arrondissement of Côte-des-Neiges-Notre-Dame-de-Grâce at the intersection of Chemin Queen-Mary and Avenue de Westbury. Trains on orange line 2 run here , and Snowdon is the western terminus of blue line 5 . Arrangement of the platforms

The station designed by Jean-Louis Beaulieu was created in the form of three adjacent tunnels, each with two levels. On the upper level at a depth of 19.5 meters, the trains going out of town on the orange line stop, and the trains on the blue line also arrive here. On the lower level at a depth of 24.6 meters, the trains stop on the orange line in the direction of the city center; the trains on the blue line also leave here. This arrangement was found to be inconvenient as most transfers require the use of the stairs. The reason for this is the lack of a southern branch of the blue line, which was still included in the original plans.

The distances to the neighboring stations (measured from station end to station start) are as follows:

From the central distribution tunnel, escalators lit by chandeliers lead up to the entrance hall. This is integrated in a four-storey building made of bricks, in which the offices of the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) are located. There are connections to two STM bus lines.

Ventilation grille

The platforms are adorned with the cycle of murals Les quatres saisons (“The Four Seasons”) by Claude Guité. It comprises four pictures 152.2 meters long and 2.4 meters high, each made of 50 colorfully sprayed concrete slabs. The pictures Printemps (“Spring”), Été (“Summer”), Automme (“Autumn”) and Hiver (“Winter”) depict the foliage and the weather in each of the four seasons in an abstract way. The architect Jean- Louis Beaulieu was artistically active and contributed abstractly shaped ventilation grilles and a similarly designed gate to a company entrance.

history

The station opened on September 7, 1981, when the Place-Saint-Henri- Snowdon section of the orange line went into operation. Almost four months later, on January 4, 1982, the section to Côte-Sainte-Catherine followed . The transfer hub went into operation on January 4, 1988 with the opening of the Snowdon– Parc section of the blue line. The extension of the blue line from Snowdon southwest to Côte-Saint-Luc , Montréal-Ouest , Lachine and Montreal-Trudeau Airport has been postponed indefinitely . The station is named after the Snowdon district, named after a local landowner.
