Saint-Michel is a subway station in Montreal . It is located in the Villeray – Saint-Michel – Parc-Extension arrondissement at the intersection of Boulevard Saint-Michel and Boulevard Shaughnessy. It is the northern terminus of blue line 2 . In 2006, 3,925,861 passengers used the station, which is 18th place out of a total of 68 stations on Metro Montreal .

Building

Station entrance

The station designed by the architects Lemoyne & Associés was created in the form of a tunnel station , interrupted by a spacious, cube-shaped hall in the middle, from where stairs and escalators lead up to the distribution level. Square lighting fixtures attached to rails convey an unusual, industrial appearance. The distribution level is designed similarly and is illuminated from above by incident daylight. The two entrance pavilions made of bricks are also modeled on the industrial architecture.

The platform level with two side platforms is located at a depth of 15.8 meters . The distance to the neighboring D'Iberville station, measured from the end of the station to the start of the station, is 607.60 meters. There are connections to six bus routes and two night bus routes operated by the Société de transport de Montréal .

art

Four different artists each designed a large mural, which was painted on the concrete wall and covered with glass bricks. They are each 14.6 meters long and 2 meters high. The common theme is nature and the landscape around a lake. The work of Marcelin Cardinal is the most colorful and shows a river between green and yellow fields. Charles Lemay captured people doing various activities at the lake. Lauréat Marois combined realistic nature scenes with strict geometric shapes in blue tones. Normand Moffat depicted plants in various shades of brown and in abstract form.

history

The station and the blue line were opened on June 16, 1986, together with the section towards De Castelnau . It is named after the Boulevard Saint-Michel, named after Archangel Michael , the patron saint of soldiers and warriors.

In December 2011, the Agence métropolitaine de transport (AMT) published the Vision 2020 study . According to this, line 5 is to continue from Saint-Michel in a northeastern direction into the Arrondissement of Anjou . Five new stations are planned; the terminus would be at the Galeries d'Anjou shopping center , in the immediate vicinity of a motorway junction.
