Joseph Kutzen

Joseph August Kutzen (born March 24, 1800 in Frankenstein / Silesia ; † October 14, 1877 in Breslau ) was a German historian , philologist , geographer , educator , politician and member of the Frankfurt National Assembly .

Life

His father was a town miller and landowner in his birthplace Frankenstein in Silesia. He attended high school in Glatz .

He studied history, philology and geography from 1822 to 1829 in Breslau and Berlin . In Breslau he joined the Arminia Breslau fraternity in 1822 (today the Old Breslau fraternity of the Raczeks ). In 1829 he was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD.

After his doctorate he worked as a private tutor for several count families in Silesia, later he became a high school teacher in Wroclaw. From 1832 to 1837 he was a private lecturer, from 1837 he was a professor of history and geography. In 1849 he voluntarily resigned from civil service, probably due to a marriage that gave him material independence. From 1837 to 1845 he was also the curator of the Wroclaw University Library . From 1837 to 1849 he was a member of the scientific examination commission for Silesia and Poznan in Wroclaw .

From 1845 to 1848 he was first responsible editor and later editor of the Allgemeine Oderzeitung in Breslau.

In the revolutionary year of 1848 he was a member of the constituency 25, province of Silesia (Frankenstein) in the Paulskirchenparliament. He joined the Café Milani faction . After 1848 he worked as a local civil servant and freelance writer in Wroclaw. In 1850 he was a member of the Volkshaus of the Erfurt Union Parliament .
