A historically significant villa building in Vienna - Hietzing (Angermayergasse 1) , now used as a university, is known under the name Villa Blum .

history

A building known as a villa stood on the spacious grounds as early as the 1880s. The site plan 1893 also shows an observation tower that still exists today on the Trazerberg ( 277  m above sea level ), which is part of the property, and a former porter's house that also exists today.

The Hungarian textile industrialist Leopold Blum bought the property in 1918. Blum, owner of the Blum & Haas oilcloth factory in Eitelbergergasse and manufacturer of artificial leather and linoleum , commissioned the architect Carl Witzmann to plan a new, prestigious villa building on the site the old villa, which was demolished around 1921.

In 1941 the property was confiscated by the Gestapo . In 1942 it was acquired by the aircraft industrialist Ernst Heinkel . In 1943 he had the villa partially adapted as a company building and an annex built on the east side. Design offices, a model room and halls were also created. The architect was Hans Payer.

Aircraft engines were produced at short notice in the old cellar facilities on the southern slope of the Trazerberg. After the war they served as a fruit store. Today they are largely inaccessible.

After the restitution in 1950, the Blum family sold the property to the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry in 1952 . The ministry set up a federal seminar for agricultural and forestry education here. In 1958/59 and 1978 extensive structural extensions were made. The federal seminar was declared related to the academies in 1966. Since October 1, 2007, the previous Agricultural Education Academy has been operating as the University of Agricultural and Environmental Education .

Rector Thomas Haase initiated the processing of the history of the house. ORF “Vienna Today” editor Gabriele (Gabi) Hassler conducted an interview with him that was broadcast on August 7, 2019 on TV.
