The Trazerberg is a 277  m high hill in the 13th district of Vienna , Hietzing , and represents a branch of the Vienna Woods .

Geography and geology

The partially wooded Trazerberg, built only on the edge, lies between Trazerberggasse in the north, Einsiedeleigasse in the west and Angermayergasse in the south, about 400 m south of the Ober-St.-Veiter parish church , in the western part of the built-up district area.

Neighboring hills are Girzenberg, 250 m southeast, and Rote Berg, another 400 m east . The three almost equally high hills that belong to the Ober-St.-Veit district form a green space that is not crossed by streets. The Lainzer Tunnel , built in the 2000s and commissioned by Deutsche Bahn at the end of 2012, runs from north-west to south-east .

The Trazerberg is separated to the west by the slightly deeper Schweizertal (Schweizertalgasse, Einsiedeleigasse) from the Lainzer Tiergarten , part of the Vienna Woods, with the Himmelhof , Sankt Veiter Lissen and Gemeindeberg elevations , which, like the Trazerberg, drain to the northeast to the Wien River.

Like the neighboring hills, the Trazerberg belongs geologically to the Sankt Veit cliff zone of the flysch zone (cf. geology of the Girzenberg ).

history

The hill and its slopes were used for centuries after the deforestation of part of the forest areas, such as the surrounding area. B. as vineyards and pastures. The Trazerberg has been located in Vienna's urban area since 1892.

A villa has stood on the slope of the mountain since 1880 and was converted into Villa Blum in 1921 . The villa was taken from its owner during the Nazi era; The production facilities of the Ernst Heinkel Flugzeugwerke were located in the cellars .

After the Second World War, the legal owner sold the building to the Federal Ministry of Agriculture , which set up its federal seminar , later the agricultural policy seminar , here. Since 2007 the institute has been operating as the University of Agricultural and Environmental Education Vienna.
