Villa Hériot , also Villa Herriot , is a palace in Venice in the Italian region of Veneto . It is located in the eastern part of the Giudecca island in the Dorsoduro sestiere overlooking the lagoon south of the city.

history

From the beginning of the 20th century, many wealthy foreigners decided to make Venice their second home, which resulted in new building plots on top of abandoned buildings from earlier centuries. So it was with the French Hériot , who, after buying the site of a former soap factory on the island of Giudecca, placed two villas from Raffaele Mainella on it, each with a diverse architecture and rich, decorative elements such as pateras , formals , pillars and other Byzantine styles Had motifs built.

In 1947, after the death of her husband, Hériot's widow left the complex of Villa Hériot to the municipality, and when it was sold she decreed that it should be used for a public school. The building therefore became the Carlo Gordini primary school . The school was later closed and the Villa Hériot became the seat of the “Società Europea di Cultura” (German: European Cultural Society), the “Università Internationale dell'Arte, sede di Venezia” (German: International Art University, seat in Venice) and the “Casa della memoria del Novecento veneziano” (German: House of Memory of the 20th Century in Venice).
