Villa Jasmine

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Villa Jasmin is an autobiographical novel published in 2005 and Serge Moati's debut as a writer . It serves as a template for the television film Villa Jasmin by Férid Boughedir .

action

The novel describes the life of the parents Serge Moatis, Odette and Serge Moati, two Franco-Tunisian Jews from 1903 to 1957. The story revives the Jewish-Sephardic Tunis of the interwar period. The life story of the father, who was active in the Resistance during the Nazi occupation in Tunis, is of particular importance.

The novel is of historical importance because it depicts the little-known time of the German occupation in Tunis. He also characterizes the differences between Sephardic Jews who originally immigrated from Livorno and the long-established Jewish communities that are more than 2000 years old .

Movie

The film version by Férid Boughedir from 2008 is a relatively free adaptation of the novel.
