Serge Moati (* 17th August 1946 in Tunis as Henry Moati ) is a French director, producer and actor Franco-Tunisian descent.

Life

Serge Moati is the brother of the writer Nine Moati . In the 1960s he ran the film school of the Center Culturel Franco-Nigérien in Niger together with Gérard de Battista and Gérard Delassus .

Moati became known in 1972 with the film adaptation of François Mauriacs Le Sagouin (with Marie-Christine Barrault ). He celebrated his breakthrough in 1976 with the thriller Nuit d'or - The Night of Gold , in which French stars such as Bernard Blier , Marie Dubois , Charles Vanel , Maurice Ronet and Anny Duperey also played the German Klaus Kinski and Elisabeth Flickenschildt . Moati's film, in which a man believed dead (Kinski) terrorizes his family, uses surreal scenes and numerous symbols to castigate the hypocrisy of a bigoted bourgeoisie. This was followed by Rossel et la commune de Paris (1977), Everything is forgotten in the end (1981), Olympe de nos amours (1989), Le piège (1991) and Une femme dans la tourmente (1995, with Miou-Miou ) , Une page d'amour (1996, with Miou-Miou and Jacques Perrin ), Sapho (1997, with Mireille Darc ), Maison de famille (1999, with Marie-Christine Barrault) and Mercenaries of Hell (2005, with Richard Bohringer ) . In addition to the feature films, Moati also made documentaries ( Les Mitterrand , Une vie ordinaire ou Mes questions sur l'homosexualité )

As an actor, Moati occasionally appears in his own films. a. in Au bout du chemin (1981), Le Garçon qui ne dormait pas (1994) and Sami, le pion (2002).
