Villa Marcelle

The Villa Marcelle is a listed building in the town of Gernrode, part of the town of Quedlinburg in Saxony-Anhalt .

location

It is located west of the center of Gernrode at the foot of the Schwedderberg at the address Am Schwedderberg 7a on the south side of the street and is listed as a villa in the local register of monuments. The villa is an individual monument, but also belongs to the listed group of houses Am Schwedderberg 1, 2, 4, 6, 7a, 8, 9a, 10, 12 .

Architecture and history

The villa was built in 1907. Both the villa and the outbuildings, which were built around the same time, show elements of Art Nouveau and also cite the local tradition in half-timbered construction . Remains of the historical enclosure and the old garden have also been preserved.

The owner was the owner of the first Harz postcard publishing house, Mittag . The property served as both a residential and a commercial site.

Other sources describe the use of the house, known there as Villa Marcelle, as a French daughter's boarding school for household and scientific lessons. The boarding school had space for 15 to 16 girls and was one of the smaller facilities of this type. It had good references. However, during the inflation it was abandoned as a boarding school.
