The Villa Spedaletto is a Medici villa in the town of Lajatico near Volterra .

description

It is one of the country houses owned by Lorenzo il Magnifico , who often stayed there. However, the villa was given up soon after his death in 1492.

The Medici had a strategic interest in the area in terms of securing the 1472 conquered Volterra. Lorenzo also liked to visit the nearby hot mineral springs of Bagno a Morba . Lorenzo furnished the villa with rich fresco decorations, which are now completely lost.

According to Giorgio Vasari, Domenico Ghirlandaio , Filippino Lippi , Pietro Perugino and Sandro Botticelli worked on the large loggia and the hall . The frescoes were burned in the early 19th century.

From 1494 to 1606 the villa was owned by the Cybo family, and in 1606 Senator Tommaso Corsini bought it . The Corsini are still the owners, their coat of arms adorns the facade.
