The Villa Plange at Sigefridwall 20 in Soest is a listed building in the New Building style .

history

The villa is in close proximity to the medieval town center of Soest. It was built in 1927 on behalf of Johanna and Captain Wilhelm Plange from the Plange entrepreneurial family , who owned large mills in Soest and other locations. The design came from the Cologne studio for architecture Bruno Paul under the direction of Franz Weber, who designed two other residential buildings in Soest, the Villa Jahn and the Villa Sternberg. Bruno Paul is considered one of the most important architects of the 1920s.

The first drafts for the villa date from 1925. Up until the start of construction, further planning variants followed, in which the floor plans, the facade design and the roof shape were changed. In the course of the planning, the floor space of the house was reduced to 19.5 m × 10.5 m. In addition to the actual architecture, Paul's plans also included a large part of the interior furnishings such as furniture, carpets and lamps. They were made by the Richmodishaus in Cologne, a branch of the Deutsche Werkstätten Hellerau . Part of the interior was later acquired by the Soest Association for History and Home Care. V. from an estate. These objects are now in the house again and are also under monument protection .

The structure is cubic. The low roof pitch of 5 ° makes the roof appear as a flat roof . The facades consist of unplastered reddish brick masonry. They form a contrast to the white-painted wooden lattice windows. The interior is characterized by a flexibility of spatial division. Large windows allow a connection with the surrounding landscape. The interiors appear correspondingly bright.

During the Second World War , the building was badly damaged in a bomb attack. Apart from the north facade, it was rebuilt according to the original plans. The villa has been owned by the Soest district since 1980 . The district archive was housed there between 1986 and 2011, and since then it has been the seat of the Soest district's economic development agency.

In March 2010 the villa was named “Monument of the Month” by the Working Group on Historic Towns and Towns in North Rhine-Westphalia.
