Reinhard Schermann

Reinhard Schermann (* 20th March 1943 in Silesia ) is a former German local politician of the CDU . He was from 2003 to 2011 District Administrator of the district of Göttingen .

Life

Youth, training and professional career

Reinhard Schermann was born in Silesia in 1943 and grew up after fleeing in Bad Harzburg , where he also met his future wife.

After completing his military service, he studied teaching at the Georg August University in Göttingen and then taught as a teacher in Bockenem , Göttingen and Wolfenbüttel . In 1977 he moved to the Lower Saxony Ministry of Education as a personal advisor and press spokesman for Education Minister Werner Remmers . This was followed by other activities in the school sector, first in 1980 as a secondary school rector in Gieboldehausen and from 1982 as school authority director in the Northeim school inspectorate . A year later he switched back to state politics as head of the press office of Lower Saxony's Minister of Education, Georg-Berndt Oschatz , and from 1985 Schermann was spokesman for the CDU parliamentary group in the Lower Saxony state parliament . After a further position as director of education in the Göttingen school supervisory authority, he headed the ministerial office of Minister of Education Horst Horrmann as a ministerial advisor from 1988 to 1990 and was then deputy head of department and division for teaching.

After reunification, from 1991 to 1992 he worked as a ministerial director and department head in the Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs of Saxony-Anhalt .

Political commitment

Schermann joined the Junge Union in 1962 and was chairman of the Hildesheim district association from 1972 to 1980 . His political opponents included u. a. the then Juso chairman and later Federal Chancellor Gerhard Schröder . Schermann has been a member of the CDU since 1968. In the 1980s he was the local chairman in Diemarden in the Göttingen district.

Local politics

His local political career in Göttingen began in 1992 as head of the district for schools, social affairs, youth, culture and sport.

In 2003 Schermann ran for the post of district administrator. On February 16, he was able to prevail in a runoff election against the SPD candidate , Markus Hoppe, with 53.9% of the votes, after none of the two first-placed applicants received an absolute majority of the votes in the first ballot on February 2 .

One focus of his local political work was environmental protection, which earned him the reputation of a “green” district administrator. He supported the expansion of bioenergy and the promotion of renewable energies such as electricity generation through hydropower. Other focal points of work were the strengthening of rural areas, the establishment of a company for economic development in the region, the expansion of the district into a knowledge and innovation region and the streamlining of the administration. The district's innovation prize, which has been awarded annually since 2003, also goes back to his initiative.

In the election of the district administrator on September 11, 2011, he did not run because he had exceeded the age limit for re-election at the age of 68. His successor was Bernhard Reuter on November 1st .

Schermann is married to his wife Therese, has two grown daughters and lives in the Diemarden district of the Gleichen community .
