Bernhard Reuter (* 8. January 1955 in Kassel ) is a German politician and district administrator of the district of Göttingen and Chairman of the Lower Saxony Landkreistag . He has been a member of the SPD since 1986 .

Life and work

Reuter graduated from high school in Kassel in 1973 . He then studied law, social sciences and teaching at the Georg-August University in Göttingen . In 1976 he passed the first teaching examination and in 1978 the second teaching examination. From 1979 to 1989 he worked as a teacher. In 1986 he completed his law studies with the first state examination. From 1989 to 1994 he was the deputy headmaster of the Leinebergschule Göttingen primary school. Then from 1994 to 1999 he was headmaster of the orientation level Leinebergschule Göttingen.

Reuter is married. He has 4 grown children and 4 grandchildren. The politician Ernst Reuter and the former CEO of Daimler-Benz AG Edzard Reuter are also related to Bernhard Reuter .

Public offices

On March 7, 1999, Bernhard Reuter was elected the first full-time district administrator in the district of Osterode am Harz and took up his post on June 1, 1999. In 2006 they were re-elected with 62.1% of the vote. On September 11, 2011, Reuter was elected District Administrator of the Göttingen district. In the local elections in Lower Saxony in 2016 , he ran for re-election, had to face a runoff on September 25, 2016 and won it with 56.16% against his opponent Ludwig Theuvsen .

From 2004 to 2007 and again since September 1, 2009, Reuter has been chairman of the Lower Saxony district assembly. Since January 13, 2010 he has also been Vice President of the German District Assembly . In addition, Reuter has been Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Südniedersachsenstiftung since 2015 .
