The Board of Trustees has 25 members. The heads of municipalities, universities and associations as well as numerous successful entrepreneurs are represented in it. The chairman of the board of trustees is Bernhard Reuter , district administrator of the Göttingen district .

Foundation purpose

The Südniedersachsenstiftung sees itself as an independent and politically independent foundation in which the three pillars of the region - economy, science and municipalities - meet at eye level. The purpose of the foundation in accordance with its statutes is to promote the development and growth of the South Lower Saxony region as a whole.

The aim of the Südniedersachsenstiftung is to sustainably increase the performance and competitiveness of the region, to make better use of the regional potential and to optimally exploit the potential for employees, innovation and knowledge. In order to guarantee this, the foundation initiates projects together with its partners, in the implementation of which the foundation team plays a key role. In addition, the Südniedersachsenstiftung is developing new structural projects as a central moderation and control instrument that will strengthen the region's future viability. To this end, it has been organizing an annual Southern Lower Saxony conference since 2019 with the participation of actors from business, science, administration and politics.

Projects

South Lower SaxonyInnovationsCampus

The SüdniedersachsenInnovationsCampus (SNIC) was launched in 2016 by the cooperation partners involved. Its aim is to network science and business more closely, to increase the start-up and innovation dynamics in the region and to counteract the shortage of skilled workers in southern Lower Saxony. To this end, the SNIC builds a bridge between universities and companies and networks them with partners from local authorities and chambers.

In addition to the University of Göttingen , the HAKW Hildesheim / Holzminden / Göttingen , the PFH Private University of Applied Sciences Göttingen and the TU Clausthal , the districts of Göttingen , Goslar , Holzminden and Northeim as well as the city of Göttingen with its economic subsidies , the Chamber of Skilled Crafts Hildesheim-South Lower Saxony and the industrial and Hannover Chamber of Commerce organized in the SNIC. There are also more than 20 companies from the region. Since the second funding period, which began in July 2019, the Göttingen University Medical Center has also been part of the group of cooperation partners. The SNIC office is located at the SüdniedersachsenStiftung. She coordinates the fields of work and ensures the strategic development of the cooperation. Some SNIC projects are funded by the Lower Saxony Vorab of the Volkswagen Foundation , the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), the Lower Saxony Ministry of Science and Culture and the Lower Saxony Ministry of Economics, Labor, Transport and Digitization .

Alliance of skilled workers in southern Lower Saxony

The South Lower Saxony skilled workers' alliance was established in 2015 as part of the Lower Saxony skilled workers' initiative and recognized by the Lower Saxony Ministry of Economics as one of eight regional skilled workers' alliances across the country . It initiates and accompanies projects in order to permanently meet the skilled labor needs of regional companies. The alliance includes the districts of Northeim and Göttingen as well as the city of Göttingen and has a broad membership structure with more than 20 superordinate regional labor market players.

Since it was launched in 2015, the initiative has raised funds from the European Social Fund (ESF) totaling around 1.3 million euros to the region. The structural projects that are partially funded with this budget include the Welcome Center for the Göttingen Campus and the South Lower Saxony region . The Lower Saxony Ministry of Economic Affairs extended the original funding period from September 1, 2018 to August 2021. By continuing, further projects can be funded during this period that fit into the action plan of the revised skilled workers strategy.

Twice a year, the regional players also come together for the South Lower Saxony skilled workers conference, which has established itself as a platform for the exchange of representatives from business, science and politics with around 100 participants. It creates transparency for existing activities and offers the opportunity to develop new initiatives. The main aim of the conference is to tackle the subject of skilled workers together and to initiate, strengthen and expand project-related cooperation for recruiting and retaining skilled workers.

TOPAS - Top Employer in Southern Lower Saxony

So that medium-sized companies from the region can assert themselves in the competition for the best minds, the SüdniedersachsenStiftung launched the TOPAS - Top Employer Südniedersachsen initiative in 2012. Companies thus have the opportunity to be recognized as a top employer and to present their attractiveness as an employer.

In order to be allowed to wear the TOPAS label, the companies have to undergo a qualification on all aspects of finding and retaining employees. On this basis, individual goals are developed in order to systematically develop entrepreneurial activity as a TOP employer. The company's specific measures are presented and evaluated in on-site audit discussions.

This offer is supplemented by further TOPAS seminars and workshops, which take up and deepen current trends. Regular network events offer the opportunity to network across industries and benefit from best practice examples from regional companies. The TOPAS network currently comprises 36 companies from the South Lower Saxony region .

Welcome Center

The Welcome Center for the Göttingen Campus and the South Lower Saxony region is a joint service of the South Lower Saxony Foundation, the municipalities and the University of Göttingen . The Welcome Center helps international scientists as well as specialists and executives from Germany and abroad with all practical questions relating to arrival and stay in southern Lower Saxony. The offers range from accompaniment with visits to the authorities and assistance in choosing the right childcare or school to networking among new residents.

In addition to the headquarters in Göttingen , the Welcome Center has regional offices in the districts of Göttingen and Northeim .

During the two-year term as a development and research project, the Welcome Center was financed with funds from the University of Göttingen and funds from the European Social Fund with the participation of the SüdniedersachsenStiftung, the districts of Göttingen and Northeim and the city of Göttingen . The Welcome Center went into regular operation on June 1, 2019.

Regional strategy for southern Lower Saxony

In 2015, the Lower Saxony state government initiated the Southern Lower Saxony program to support the structurally weak region of Southern Lower Saxony . The regional development process is to be continued after a five-year period . In cooperation with the Office for Regional Regional Development Braunschweig and the Steering Committee for South Lower Saxony, the South Lower Saxony Foundation will develop a new regional strategy. The resulting “South Lower Saxony Program 2.0” is intended to further develop and strengthen the interplay between the regional authorities, the scientific institutions and, above all, the economy in South Lower Saxony.

Regional specialist marketing for southern Lower Saxony

The focus of the project, which started in January 2020, is the joint marketing of the South Lower Saxony region with the involvement of all relevant players from business, science and municipalities. In the first step, existing activities, projects and best practices inside and outside the region are recorded and analyzed. Subsequently, regional and needs-based measures are developed in several topic-centered workshops, which are to be converted into a skilled worker marketing strategy for southern Lower Saxony. In addition, the concept for a uniform online portal for recruiting skilled workers for southern Lower Saxony is being developed. The project is funded within the framework of the Southern Lower Saxony Skilled Workers' Alliance with approx. € 124,000 (50% of the costs) from funds from the European Social Fund (ESF) and is scheduled for 30 months (01/2020 to 06/2022). Co-financing is provided by the districts of Göttingen and Northeim and the SüdniedersachsenStiftung.
