The Südniedersachsen-Innovations-Campus (SNIC, spelling SüdniedersachsenInnovationsCampus ) is a cross-institutional and regional innovation network in southern Lower Saxony . It was founded in 2016 through a cooperation agreement between regional players and financially supported by the Lower Saxony state government as part of the South Lower Saxony program. The individual SNIC projects are funded by the Lower Saxony Vorab of the Volkswagen Foundation , the Lower Saxony Ministry of Science and Culture and the Lower Saxony Ministry of Economics as well as with the support ofEuropean Regional Development Fund (ERDF) funded.

organization

The four universities of the Southern Lower Saxony region - the University of Göttingen , the HAWK Hildesheim / Holzminden / Göttingen , the PFH Private University of Applied Sciences Göttingen and the TU Clausthal - as well as the districts of Göttingen , Goslar , Holzminden , Northeim and the city of Göttingen with their economic subsidies have joined forces in the SNIC , the Chamber of Crafts Hildesheim-Südniedersachsen , the IHK Hannover and the SüdniedersachsenStiftung have merged. Since the second funding period, which began in July 2019, the Göttingen University Medical Center has also been part of the group of cooperation partners. In addition, more than 20 companies from southern Lower Saxony interested in innovation support the SNIC office as a funding partner.

The SNIC office is located under the umbrella of the Südniedersachsenstiftung. It networks the fields of work and ensures that suitable contacts are found and offers are bundled. The office is financed exclusively regionally.

An 18-person steering group, made up of representatives of the cooperation partners, acts as an impulse and control body.

aims

The SNIC is a central structural element of the innovation region South Lower Saxony and has the task of (1) networking science and industry in such a way that companies, universities and research institutions cooperate more closely and benefit from each other, (2) strengthen the start-up culture in southern Lower Saxony and (3) to effectively counteract the shortage of skilled workers . To this end, the SNIC builds bridges between scientists and companies and networks them with local authorities and chambers. In this way, the SNIC makes better use of the potential of this region of knowledge and helps to transform it into innovations.

Accelerator

The SNIC Life Science Accelerator builds on one of the region's particular strengths in the life sciences . The start-up center has been funded by the Lower Saxony Ministry of Economics since January 2018 . The originally two-year funding period was extended until the end of 2022. The project sponsor is the Society for Economic Development and Urban Development Göttingen (GWG). The 50 percent co-financing is provided by the Sparkassen in Göttingen , Duderstadt , Einbeck , Münden , Northeim and Osterode . The accelerator accelerates and strengthens the development of new and spin-offs from universities and companies with a focus on the life sciences. The accelerator relies on a tailor-made qualification program, coaching by sponsors, mentors and experts as well as attracting investors. The accelerator offers space for six teams per six-month run.

Applied theses

Students write their bachelor , master or doctoral thesis in cooperation with regional companies and receive financial support from the SNIC. Companies benefit from the students' know-how, get to know potential employees and intensify their contacts in universities. In addition, students make their first contacts in business so that they get to know regional companies as potential employers.

Company excursions

Students from the SNIC partner universities get to know companies in the region and the companies have the opportunity to present themselves as an attractive employer for future specialists and managers. The SNIC excursions can be limited to specific courses and subject areas according to the needs of the company in order to ensure a perfect fit.

Look into research

In the “View into Research”, current application-oriented research results from the various departments are clearly presented on two to three pages.

Start-up support

The SNIC offers founders and start-ups extensive support services - including free crowdfunding advice. The SNIC is also working on setting up a business angel network. Regular low-threshold networking and information events (so-called meetups) outside the Göttingen regional center offer a platform for the exchange of ideas between the founders and with experts, and also strengthen the regional start-up dynamic.

Innovation Hub Network

The Innovation Hub South Lower Saxony is an open network coordinated by the SNIC. The network is intended to help start-ups , freelancers , scientific working groups and companies in southern Lower Saxony find suitable spaces in order to be able to work, tinker and exchange ideas flexibly. The core of the network is the website www.innovationhubs.de . Providers of coworking spaces , prototype workshops as well as meeting and event rooms have the opportunity to present their offers free of charge.

Innovation academy

In the SNIC Innovation Academy, students, academic staff, postdocs, etc. receive comprehensive qualifications in the field of entrepreneurship and innovation education. The spectrum ranges from a series of lectures and special events to the certificate study program “Innovation and Founding”.

Innovation scouting

The innovation scouts at the universities guarantee comprehensive screening of relevant research results in order to develop innovation potential. These are documented and published as “technology offers” on the SNIC website. The target group-oriented processing and the exchange with the technology consultants enable knowledge and technology transfer to the regional economy and thus lead to innovation projects in companies.

Practice forum and business group

The practical forums and entrepreneurial groups promote the exchange between business and science. Here, entrepreneurs not only find out which topics are currently being dealt with by researchers in the universities, but they also have the opportunity to raise their own questions and topics.

Practical seminar

In the practical seminar, student teams work on specific issues from regional companies as part of a course under the guidance of scientific supervisors. Students receive realistic insights into the world of work and helpful feedback from the client. The companies in turn benefit from theoretically sound concepts and the often still undisguised perspective of the students. The SNIC serves as a contact for interested companies and also bears part of the costs that students incur as part of the collaboration.

Pre-incubator

The pre-incubator is open to students and academic staff at universities in southern Lower Saxony for innovative projects in the preliminary phase of implementation. Here you can work around the clock free of charge to develop your ideas conceptually and implement them, e.g. B. about starting a business , to prepare. They also receive support through coaching and mentoring.

SNIC on site

The "SNIC on site" competition aims to identify committed rural communities in southern Lower Saxony and to develop knowledge-based solutions for local problems with the local players - for example for housing and mobility offers, requirements for associations or technical infrastructure. Interdisciplinary teams from the respective research areas of the SNIC partner universities are available for this purpose. The results are to be transferred to other locations by means of thematic conferences.

Technology consulting

The SNIC technology consultants support small and medium-sized companies in the districts of Göttingen and Northeim as well as the city of Göttingen in making use of funding opportunities and potential in science. To this end, they give SMEs access to the know-how of regional research institutions and other companies and support the implementation of projects that lead to new processes, products and services. In doing so, they work closely with the SNIC innovation scouts.

Future and project workshop

In the future workshop, scientists, students as well as specialists and executives from regional companies develop ideas and topics for further project plans together. This can take place across or across the university. The project ideas can then find their way into various SNIC formats. One of them is the project workshop, in which interdisciplinary working groups made up of scientists, students, company representatives and civil society actors work on selected issues in full-day workshops along an innovation process based on design thinking . The result can be study or final theses, achievements within the framework of the “Innovation and Founding” certificate program, concrete start-up or innovation concepts or even finished market achievements.
